The Porto Vecchio of Sirmione cuts deep into the narrow spit of land on the southern Lake Garda. It forms a sheltered bay, framed by the massive Scaliger Castle and the row of houses in the old town. The water here is a reflective element that doubles the architecture of the waterfront.

The fortress walls on the left side ground the scene, while the narrow alleys and colorful facades of the old town on the right side create a vertical layering. In the middle, the view opens up to the wide lake, which merges with the horizon in the distance.
